Bloomfield Christian Chruch

The Bloomfield Christian Church was founded in 1850 with a charter membership of over sixty members.  During the Civil War, a merger occurred with the Congregational Church.  In 1870, the Bloomfield Christian Church became associated with the State Organization of Christian Churches. The present congregation became permanently organized body on January 1, 1873, under the name of “The Church of Christ.”

From 1873 to the present, the congregation has completed three building programs.  A fire in 1945 forced the worship services to be held in a courtroom of the Davis County Court House until the present building on North Davis Street was completed and dedicated on May 9, 1954.

Through the years from 1873 to the present. The congregation has been served by over 25 ministers and several interim ministers.  While in 1973 the congregation had approximately 225 members overall and today’s membership totals approximately 686 members with 322 participating members. Average worship attendance is 123 worshipful soups!  In all those years and for all of these people, our mission has been to be and to share the Good News of Jesus Christ, to serve in faith and to promote Christian Unity!

The Bloomfield Christian Church is part of a much larger church called the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).  Also known as the DOC.

The symbol of Disciples of Christ is a red chalice bearing the “s-shape” cross of st. Andrew.  The chalice symbolizes the centrality of the Lord’s supper to Disciple’s life. St Andrew has been identified with the laity and evangelism, prominent emphases of the Disciples over the years.

Something to consider…

“… if I hold in my mind not only all human knowledge but also the very secrets of God, and if I have faith that can move mountains- but have no loved, I amount to nothing at all”. 1 Corinthians 13:2
